Question:
Hey, just wondering how you would spell these names!
Bailey OR Baylie.
Maria OR Mariah.
Analisse OR Annalysse.
India OR Indiya.
Henrietta OR Henryetta.
Delila OR Delyla.
Christy OR Kristie.
Thaanks.
Answer:
1. Baylie. I’ve met too many dogs with the “ey” spelling. Baylie sounds sporty and fun!
2. Depends on the pronunciation—they’re two different names. Also to consider: Future comparisons to one of the greatest songstresses of our time.
3. Two “n’s” — anything you can do to avoid future school yard mocking of your child centered on “anal” should be started early.
4. India - It’s a country too so let’s get this one right.
5. Henrietta. Choose this spelling as Henryetta, Oklahoma has some SCARY demographic #s.
6. Delila(h). If you’re gonna name your girl after a bad biblical role model, might as well go for the traditional spelling of the name.
7. Too common. Let’s just show for: First: Marisa Middle: Tomei Last: _____

Do i have an American Accent? (Link to audio included)
Full text of audio: How you guys doing? Um, so this audio is about me speaking to you guys telling me if I have an American accent. So i actually moved to the US about 7 1/2 years ago, and the reason I’m asking this question is because I kind of feel embarrassed talking in class and such, like when teachers call on me and stuff, so I just want to clear this up if I have an accent or not. If I have it could you please tell me where I’m making mistakes so I can improve them.
Answer:
We have all sorts of accents here in the United States (Side note: A lot of them sound absolutely ridiculous). Oddly enough the weakest link in your “American accent” comes out the most when you say that you’re embarrassed about it in your audio clip.
What to take away from this fact: Don’t be embarrassed about the accent (or lack thereof). In fact, don’t even say you’re embarrassed about your accent (or lack thereof), because only then is it apparent. Plus remember, the ladies (or men if that’s your thing—totally cool) will love your accent, talking like a 100% completely normal American is boring…spice it up!
Postscript: Sometimes due to the lack of worldliness of most Americans, we will sometimes assume accents are speech impediments. If you run into this tell them that your home country can beat us in soccer (football).
